1. Sleepwalker
There's a boy of six asleep in his bed
he's never known war but the wars in his head.
Its too late now, the battle's waged
his number's up and he's joined the ranks.
At the top of it all sits an angry king,
the sun's his crown and his thrown's the sea-
His mother wakes to her baby's screams
she holds his head and sings.
Sleepwalker, are you dreaming of me?
Sleepwalker, are you listening to me?
It's 2 a.m. and I'm drifting away
from my baby's arms and her softest face
to another girl with crimson skin.
She sings the night and she whispers the wind.
She sleeps alone in an ivory bed
with the softest sheets they're the dreams of men-
my baby pulls me close and says, 'if you're feeling cold,
wrap yourself in me.'

2. On the death of an Emperor
I knew of a king with no kingdom per say,
a beggar they said with a mind he betrayed.
I asked him once if what they told me was true,
he said, 'come with me, boy. I'll prove I'm no fool.'
No soldiers at hand as we strolled through the street.
He ruled with the pen and he revelled in peace.
I sat on his throne and I drank from his cup.
I met with his people and I basked in their love,
and the tears that they cried as his casket passed by,
well there was nothing more real.
Only time can prove the greatness of his rule.
I've heard all the stories of emperors past,
loved by themselves now just pushing up grass.
Anointed with pity, he was held up by faith
and hoisted on shoulders with patience and grace.
Fate dragged him down, but he picked up his staff
a serpent clutched tightly with a fist in gold cast.
He said, 'I am what I am in your hearts and your minds.
there is my kingdom and therein I'll reside.'
He died on the street with his coat soaked in rain,
but his empire stands strong.
Only time can prove the greatness of his rule.
Now 200 years passed, the sun's coming up again
over an empire once lost. I'll pick up the crown.
Now I'm seated on the throne looking out over the hills
and you're there smiling back at me. I am what you've given me.

3. Riversong
I feel the river fast beneath my feet
tugging at my waist towards the sea.
Abandoned by the fate that held my hand,
Here's a love song from a bitter fisherman.
Chance is not a force of its own
a current with no river in which to flow.
Faith drunken stubborn leads us home
to the broken dream that's all but aglow.
And in its glory rose: "Love is like a river"
I can feel the torrents crashing up ahead.
I've seen the crumbling walls and the pictures leaving frames
sunken swallowed deep beneath the waves
Love is not a force of its own
a current with no river in which to flow
Hold me now its raging up ahead,
I plant my feet and sink into the bend.
I'll be your river dear, my heart the current beating on
running deep beneath your feet.
Whenever you look into me, as we lose track of the years,
you'll always find your face young and bright
shimmering on the waves through the night.

4. Heaven Underwater
I hear the wind at night, she sings with her hoarse throat.
It's strange what you think at a time like this
like the twenty bucks that I still owe.
I'd treat you to breakfast and I'd pass you a smoke,
I'd hear all the thoughts that I missed.
(The deaf man weeps as the violinist plays,
her hair dancing twirling through the air)
I caught the tale of a shooting star
a glint of an earth-eating fire.
All I can say is that I never got my fill
and I'll never stop missing you.
I'll ride on with one hand on the wheel,
I'll sing but its just to get by.
I could build you a heaven in my head if I tried,
but I can't seem to fit you inside.
In our search for God we stumbled onto something real.
Heaven lay before us as we sought God's grace
but grace never befell a king.
Like a thief in the night we gathered all things good
with all our might we threw them to the wind.
We raised up our drinks and we toasted the sky,
well I'm damned if all that died with you tonight.
A girl once told me of a dream she had
where heaven had sunk beneath the sea.
The gates were all covered with a thousand years of scum
and all of the angels were set free.

5. Lully Lullay
Lully lullay, little child of mine
oh the by and by, lully lullay.
Summer's comin' soon, lully lullay.
I can see the sun now, lully lullay.
Lully lullay, little child of mine
oh the by and by, lully lullay.
If only I could be there to hear you cry.
I loved you before you knew me, lully lullay.
Lully lullay, little child of mine
oh the by and by, lully lullay.
Summer's comin' soon, lully lullay.
If only I could be there to hear you cry.
LyricsNOTES Claire Deiter-Plowgian & Lisa Brownstone: violin | Joey Falduto: electric guitar |Julia Callander & Paul Goodenough: bg vocals
6. Black is the Color
Black, black, black is the color of my true love's hair
Her lips are something rosy fair.
The sweetest smile and the kindest hands.
I love the grass whereon she stands.
I love my love and well she knows.
I love the ground whereon she goes.
If she no more on earth shall be,
'twill surely be the end of me.
